Dear Generations Alpha and Beta,

One of the biggest challenges our generation faces today as we go into the world is generational inequality. Over the past few decades, the trends in our economies, populations, and governments have made the gap between generations of the past and the present wider than ever. The generations of our parents have benefited from an era of widespread economic prosperity with things like cheap housing, good jobs, and stable pensions. At the time of writing these generations hold half our great nation's wealth. On the flip side, younger people have been saddled with an American dream that feels ever more out of reach, with the price of housing skyrocketing, and jobs with good benefits being replaced by part-time or gig work with little to no stability.

These problems have serious implications for society at large, even when looking past their effects on the hard-working individuals of our country. It's more difficult for young people to move up the financial ladder and build a stable nest egg like their parents, which keeps the cycle of inequality going. Younger generations are growing frustrated, the issues that will come into play for years to come - like solving climate change and making education affordable - are often ignored in favor of programs like Social Security and Medicare that mostly benefit older people. This comes at the same time as most of the wealth of our nation is held by the older generations, meaning the economy is slowing down as younger generations don't have the means to spend.

It's in the country's best interest to focus on solutions that create fairness and opportunity for all, for years to come. Raising taxes on large inheritances, and creating more good jobs for the average citizen could support the growth of our nation for decades to come. We should make policies to lower the price of college, and make changes to the flawed systems young people are being shoe-holed into. Finally, it's important to secure jobs by encouraging benefits such as paid leave, healthcare, and retirement funds. This letter is a reminder that it is not only possible to work together to solve these problems, but this is the only way to create a future where everyone has a chance to succeed.

With hope and determination,

Generation Z
